AAGT Learning Lab: Magnifying the Brilliance of Your Intense Gifted Child
Gifted children often experience the world with incredible intensity in ways that are extreme intellectually, emotionally, and physically. But what if the very traits that are sometimes seen as “challenges” are actually their greatest strengths? In this engaging and eye-opening webinar, we’ll explore the concept of gifted duality: the idea that every struggle has a corresponding brilliance. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of overexcitabilities and how they show up in real-life behaviors at home and in the classroom. Through practical examples and reflective activities, we’ll reframe common concerns that often get our gifted kids in situations they find themselves being constantly corrected (like constant questioning, big emotions, sensory sensitivities, and boundless energy) and turn it into powerful assets that can be nurtured and leveraged. You’ll walk away with actionable strategies to support gifted learners through a strengths-based lens, helping them thrive without trying to “fix” who they are. Whether you are a parent, educator, or advocate, this session will challenge your perspective and empower you to see gifted children in a whole new light. Key Takeaways: Understand the five areas of gifted intensities (overexcitabilities) Learn how behaviors often labeled as “problems” reflect deeper strengths Discover practical strategies to support gifted children at home and school Shift from a deficit mindset to a strengths-based approach Build confidence in advocating for the unique needs of gifted learners Free for AAGT Members | $15 for Non-Members Meet Your Presenter Jessica Zimmerman Jessica Zimmerman is President of the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented (AAGT), founder of Wonderfully Wired GT PD, and author of the children’s book  Growing Up Gifted .
